We believe everyone’s skin deserves the attention of experts. Getting the advice of specialized, licensed medical professionals before applying a product to your skin can help prevent unexpected damage or permanent scarring from improper care.
All providers on the platform have years of experience with chronic skin conditions as licensed dermatologists, dermatology physician assistants, or dermatology nurse practitioners.
Your provider will provide a referral for an in-person visit if necessary. Most chronic skin conditions can be treated extremely effectively online.
You will have an opportunity to see a different provider after your initial video visit if you would like to do so. While continuity of care with the same provider is very important in clearing your skin, we also want to make sure that you feel confident in your relationship with your provider.
Absolutely. You will be automatically matched up to your provider unless you request otherwise, as sticking with the same provider throughout your care can have a meaningful influence on your success at treating your skin condition.
The right products can vary from patient to patient and we recommend meeting with a medical provider to understand which products are right for you. There are cleansers, topical antibiotics, topical retinoids, oral antibiotics, hormonal therapies (topical or oral), or oral retinoids.
Yes! We simply coordinate the pharmacy order for you and make sure it is delivered to your house.
It depends! Meet with your licensed clinician through our platform and review the options that are best for your skin. If you have milder acne, you may not need prescription products to beat it and your clinician will help you select the most effective over-the-counter options.
The Honeydew membership does not include the cost of medication or over-the-counter products. However, our team will help you get your products covered by insurance or source the lowest cost out-of-pocket options. Your products are also eligible for coverage through HSAs and FSAs.
Yes.
Yes! If your treatment plan includes non-prescription products like a cleanser, moisturizer, or mild topical cream, we can coordinate the order for you and deliver it to you.
Accutane is the brand name of isotretinoin, which is an oral retinoid pill. It is most effective acne treatment on the market, and has been FDA-approved for over 40 years.
Honeydew is the best way to manage your Accutane treatment, and you can do most of it completely online. The first step is to complete a free online consultation with a Honeydew Provider. If prescribed Accutane, our team will provide a lab order for any relevant tests (e.g. pregnancy or bloodwork), which can be taken to a lab of your choice. Your care team will review the results and enroll you into iPledge. Each month you can submit a follow-up visit online with updated photos. If you can get pregnant, you will also be able to upload your pregnancy test results. Throughout the process, you will have unlimited chat access to your care team for support 7 days/week.
Every patient taking Accutane in the US must be enrolled in a program called iPledge. This is mandated by the FDA. The goal of the iPledge program is to prevent pregnancy for patients taking the medication, because Accutane can cause severe birth defects if taken during a pregnancy. The Honeydew team will help you through this process and guide you step by step.
A course of Accutane is personalized to each individual patient, but on average lasts between 6-12 months. It will vary based on variables including your weight, your dose, and your skin progress. Studies show that stopping early increases the risk of relapse, so it’s worth completing a full course to avoid repeating the process.
Yes, you will need bloodwork at least twice. For most patients, bloodwork is reviewed once before starting (the baseline), and once at the 2-month mark on therapy. The levels that are tested include a Hepatic panel (liver function) and a Lipid profile (cholesterol and triglycerides). The latest studies show that monthly bloodwork is not necessary unless there are abnormalities identified in the first two months. However, additional bloodwork may be requested at your Honeydew Provider’s discretion.
Patient who can get pregnant must either: (1) pledge abstinence; or (2) choose two forms of birth control. There are many options for birth control, including physical devices (e.g. condom), pills, and procedures. Individuals engaging exclusively in same-sex intercourse that cannot result in a pregnancy are welcome to choose abstinence as their form of birth control.
If you are a patient who can get pregnant (biologically speaking), you will need to submit monthly pregnancy tests. The first two tests must be done at a lab or physician’s office, but all subsequent tests can be done using an at-home pregnancy test. You will have a place each month to upload a picture of your results on Honeydew’s site.
If you have insurance, the medication can cost as low as $0. If you are paying with cash, Honeydew help you get the lowest price possible, which is around $65/box (versus ~$300 at CVS or Walgreens).
Accutane can have serious side effects, though serious side effects are rare. The most common side effects are dry skin and dry lips. Your Honeydew care team has strategies to help you manage any side effect, and is available 7 days/week to support you. Your will receive a thorough overview of potential side effects during your consultation and onboarding process.
Accutane is one of the only treatments that last long-term. Clinical studies show that 80% of patients experience long-term remission of acne after their first course, and over 90% experience long-term clearance after their second course. In the case of relapse, the acne is usually less severe. Also, several studies have shown that the risk of relapse is highly correlated with not receiving a sufficient dose. At Honeydew, we’re with you as long as it takes to improve your chances of having clear skin for good.
Yes! Low-dose Accutane has been clinically shown to have comparable efficacy to higher doses, with fewer side effects and a lower risk of relapse. It’s a great option, including for those with milder but persistent forms of acne. Low-dose therapy involves taking a smaller dose over a longer period of time (e.g. 1-2 years). Most dermatologists don’t offer it, but Honeydew Providers are well-trained for low dose therapy.
If you are using a reputable online provider like Honeydew, which includes licensed clinicians, legitimate prescriptions through licensed pharmacies, and full compliance with the iPledge program, then absolutely, yes. In fact, almost all Board-certified dermatologists who have experienced it (and Honeydew works with some of the best) will tell you that it’s better than their brick-and-mortar experience. On Honeydew, you can be seen right away instead of waiting months just to get an appointment, and you have unlimited access to your care team 7 days/week instead of once every 30 days. Read more about safe practices for getting Accutane online here.
We will not charge you until you meet your provider and feel comfortable under their care. After your first visit, you will be given the opportunity to start your membership with Honeydew. Once Membership is activated, you will be able to access the platform, order your treatment plan, chat with your care team at any time and follow-up with your provider.
As part of our commitment to connecting you with the best, unbiased medical guidance, we do not sell our own medication. However, our team will help you get your products covered by insurance or source the lowest cost out-of-pocket options. Your products are also eligible for coverage through HSAs and FSAs.
At this time, the Honeydew membership is not processed through insurance. However, it is eligible for HSA and FSA reimbursement and you may be able to receive out-of-network reimbursement from your insurance company. Your insurance can also be used to cover the costs of prescriptions or labs in your treatment plan.
Your membership covers all of your virtual consultations, prescriptions for FDA-approved treatments, ongoing support from your care team 7 days/week, and access to our platform to manage your care.
Generally follow-ups are once a month, but your provider may recommend more frequent follow-ups if necessary. You can also reach out to your care team if you need medical attention sooner.
You can cancel your membership from renewing anytime by emailing membership@honeydewcare.com. Please note that the monthly plan has a 3-month minimum, so your plan would only cancel after the third month in this case.
If you or your child is under the age of 18, we will need a parent or legal guardian present in the initial video consultation. If this is not possible, please contact our team. For patients 17 years of age, we may accept a parental photo holding parental ID with a signed consent form.

Results vary for every patient. Your Honeydew Provider can provide a personalized estimate, but it depends on your skin, severity of acne, and the specific treatments in your plan. Generally you should start seeing results in 6-8 weeks. Your provider will work with you to find the most effective treatment for your specific acne and can adjust the plan over time.
