Skyrizi treats psoriasis at its source. Psoriasis is caused by an overactive immune system, which triggers an overproduction of skin cells. This rapid cell growth leads to inflammation and the buildup of thick, scaly patches on the skin.
Skyrizi blocks a specific protein called interleukin-23 (IL-23), which plays a key role in the inflammatory process of psoriasis. While IL-23 normally helps regulate immune responses, in psoriasis, it contributes to excessive inflammation and skin cell production. By blocking IL-23, Skyrizi works with your biology to reduce inflammation and help clear your skin.
All Accutane patients must be enrolled into the FDA’s iPledge program, which seeks to track the distribution of this medication as well as prevent pregnancy while on treatment. The iPledge program has monthly requirements including pregnancy testing and contraceptive-use for female patients that can get pregnant. Additional requirements during treatment include blood work lab orders and monthly check-ins with a provider.
